The Riz Test

The Rice Test incorporates a set of criteria to measure how Muslims are portrayed in film and television in order to combat Islamophobic stereotypes and tropes in films and television series. The test is defined as follows: If the film/TV series features at least one character who is identifiable as Muslim (by ethnicity, language or dress) – does the character:

If the answer to any of the above questions is ‘yes’, the film or TV programme does not pass the test.
